Custom Decorative Window Film for a Church in Harrow

A local church in Harrow, Ontario, was faced with a difficult challenge—several of their original stained glass windows had been damaged and needed to be replaced. Recreating true stained glass would have been extremely costly, prompting the church to explore alternative solutions that could preserve the aesthetic without the high price tag.

They turned to Windsor Window Imaging to find a creative and practical solution.

The Challenge

The church, located at 16 Erie St North in Harrow, had a strong visual identity tied to its stained glass windows. When these windows were no longer viable, the goal was clear,

  • Maintain the traditional stained glass appearance

  • Work within a realistic budget

  • Ensure durability and ease of future maintenance

Adding to the complexity, the windows were irregular in shape and located in challenging areas, including above stairwells and near pew seating, requiring careful planning and precision installation.

The Solution

After assessing the space and the client’s goals, Windsor Window Imaging recommended a custom coloured decorative window film solution.

Rather than replacing the windows with expensive stained glass, the team installed,

  • Custom coloured decorative film applied to new clear glass

  • A design approach that visually replicated the original stained glass look

This type of film is designed for aesthetic impact rather than solar performance, offering:

  • Subtle light diffusion

  • Vibrant colour replication

  • A visually authentic stained glass effect

Installation Details

The project included:

  • 12 windows across multiple elevations

  • Approximately 350 square feet of film installation

  • Completed by one technician in just one day

Despite the architectural challenges, including uneven window shapes and elevated working conditions, the installation was completed efficiently with a strong focus on detail and alignment.

The Results

The finished project delivered a strong visual and practical outcome for the church:

  • Authentic Appearance: Successfully recreated the stained glass look using modern materials

  • Significant Cost Savings: Achieved the desired aesthetic at a fraction of the cost of true stained glass

  • Improved Flexibility: Film can be updated or replaced in the future if needed

  • Maintained Natural Light: The space continues to feel bright and welcoming

The church was very pleased with the final result, appreciating both the visual transformation and the practical approach taken to achieve it.
